Demand for Krugerrands has soared to all-time highs over the past few days. According to Alan Demby, the executive chairman of the SA Gold Coin Exchange, the phenomenon was due to a combination of factors, the most telling of which was the record high dollar gold price. “Sales of the 1 ounce gold coin advanced markedly on the day that bullion pierced the $1300 an ounce mark.” Demby said that Krugerrand buyers had not been deterred by the strength of the rand. - Sapa
