The
2011 Mandela SA Rugby Set was released to honour the Springboks, Rugby World Cup Champions of 1995 and 2007. This
gold and silver rugby coin set has a limited mintage of 2011 and is supplied with a certificate of authenticity. These
Springbok rugby coins were minted by the Mint of Norway.
Although South Africa was instrumental in the creation of the Rugby World Cup competition, the Springboks did not compete in the first two World Cups in 1987 and 1991 because of boycotts against South Africa. However, on their debut in the 1995 Rugby World Cup, the Springboks made South Africa proud by winning the final match against New Zealand 15 - 12. In 2007 the Springboks once again lifted the prestigious Webb Ellis Cup high by
beating England 15 – 6.
