Manchester United fans who think their team is worth its worth in weight in gold can now put their money where their mouth is thanks to a Manchester-born entrepreneur.
Alan Demby is the founder of The Scoin Shop, the retail division of The South African Gold Coin Exchange, based in Johannesburg, which is planning to open a store in Manchester.
Scoin sells gold for investment, including bullion and collectable coins, and has launched a Manchester United-branded, 22-carat gold half-ounce medallion.
The collectable is limited to 500 and retails at £1,500.
It is available online or from The Scoin Shop branches, of which there are three across London and Kent.
Lifelong United fan Mr Demby said: “From an investment perspective it is important to note that collectables and rarities such as medallions and proof coins attract a premium which increases in time very like art, because their provenance and rarity is digested and appreciated over time.
“Gold has increased in value more than 400 per cent in the last decade and, with the rarity of these coins, who knows what their value might be if United win their 20th League title?”
