CowParade is the world’s largest public art event. From Chicago and New York in 1999 and 2000 to Kansas City and Houston in 2001 and London in 2002, CowParade continues to evolve, not just in size, but in creativity and quality of art.
Most important, CowParade ultimately benefits charity. At the conclusion of each event, the cows are herded up and many are auctioned, with a substantial portion of the proceeds benefiting charity. The South African Gold Coin Exchange also donates proceeds of all Scoin coins purchased to the C.H.O.C Foundation (Children with Cancer)
From small beginnings, the Born Free Foundation has grown into a global force for wildlife. But a personal passion for wild animals and desire for positive change remain at our heart. Described by The Times as ‘Big enough to make a difference, but small enough to care,’ Born Free is not a big anonymous organisation, but a family of like-minded people who share the same goals. Our work to prevent individual animal suffering, protect threatened species and keep wildlife in the wild sets us apart from the rest. The South African Gold Coin Exchange has in the past donated coins for fund raising through the Born Free charity auctions
Royal Norwegian Mint (Den Kongelige Mynt) was founded in 1686 as part of the Kongsberg Silverworks, to convert the silver extracted from the mines into coins. Before being taken over by Norges Bank (the Central Bank of Norway) in 1962, the Mint had been administered by several different bodies, including the central authorities in Copenhagen and the Ministry of Finance. However, the connection with the Silverworks remained intact until the silver mines were closed down in 1957. On January 1, 2001 the mint was incorporated, with the Central Bank of Norway as their sole owner and shareholder. On June 30, 2003 the Central Bank of Norway sold the company to Samlerhuset AS and Mint of Finland Ltd, each now owning a 50% stake in the Royal Norwegian Mint AS. The South African Gold Coin Exchange has had many successful partnerships with the Mint of Norway so far including the Mandela/De Klerk Medallion and the 90th Birthday 2oz Gold Mandela Medallion.
Since Congress created the United States Mint on April 2, 1792, it has grown tremendously. The United States Mint receives more than $1 billion in annual revenues. As a self-funded agency, the United States Mint turns revenues beyond its operating expenses over to the General Fund of the Treasury.
The history of The Perth Mint started with the founding of the Perth branch of Britain’s Royal Mint in 1899. At the time, gold sovereigns and half sovereigns were used throughout the British Empire as everyday circulating coins and it was the Royal Mint’s responsibility to supply them. Rather than shipping gold to London and then distributing them back to Britain’s colonies, the Royal Mint built a number of branch mints throughout the Empire in places where gold was found. The Perth Mint was one of these – built to refine gold mined in Western Australia and turn it into sovereigns. When sovereigns were withdrawn from circulation in 1931, the Mint used its skills in the production of other coins, while still continuing to refine gold. It remained under British ownership until 1970 when control passed to the Western Australian Government, who owns it to this day.
From the Franc to the Euro, La Monnaie de Paris remains closely entangled with the history of France and its coinage.
CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation is a country wide voluntary organisation. It brings together the parents of children who suffer from all varieties of cancer or life threatening blood disorders.
Funds raised are applied to directly benefit the children and their families, and also support those involved in the treatment of these most serious illnesses. The goal of this dedicated group is to improve the welfare and quality of care for children with cancer.
The organisation provides direct practical help to children with cancer, from diagnosis onwards, recognising the inevitable disruption to family life when a child faces vigorous and often lengthy treatment. The name CHOC (an abbreviation of “Childrens Haematology Oncology Clinics”) was used by the first local parent group, established in 1979. In 2000 a new national organisation was formed, linking parent groups in all parts of the country.
